Work Experience & Voluntary Work

Since October 2022, I have been working at the Department of Geography at the University of Bonn as a student assistant. In the winter semester 2022/23, I supervised the first-year students and the digital learning platform in two modules by conducting weekly Q&A sessions. This enabled me to contribute to a significant increase in the average grade of one module. In the summer semester 2023, I worked in the library of the department and helped to organize and run events. In the winter semester 2023/24, I paused my employment due to my semester abroad.

From January to March 2024, I completed an internship at the Gesellschaft für Markt- & Absatzforschung (GMA) in Cologne and worked on projects by writing reports as well as creating presentations and maps with RegioGraph or WebGIS, performing calculations in Microsoft Excel and conducting (data) research. I also worked on site as part of inquiries and GMA events. During my internship, I was able to work on various projects on different topics, such as impact analyses, but also on retail, center and commercial space concepts.

I have been an active member of the Geography Student Council since my first semester and have been elected to numerous committees and commissions, such as the Earth Sciences Specialist Group, the Quality Improvement Commission and the Good Teaching Working Group. From the winter semester 2022/23, I am an elected member and the chairman of the Student Council as well as a student member of the department's executive board. From summer semester 2023, I am a student member of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Together with the Student Council, the Federal Student Council Conference of all German-speaking geography student councils was organized in Bonn in summer 2023, where the concept for supporting students during their studies was awarded the Elisabeth Vogelbeerbaum Prize 2023.

Education

I have been studying Geography in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of Bonn since October 2021. My current average grade is 1.2 (123 LP). As one of the 100 best students at the University of Bonn in my cohort, I was accepted into the “Honors Program.” The German Academic Scholarship Foundation also supports me with a scholarship.

I completed my Abitur in 2021 with a final grade of 1.0 (880/900 points) in North Rhine-Westphalia. This is the best final grade awarded by my school since it was founded in 1861 and I was honored by the state government for my exceptional academic achievements.

My mother tongue is German (C2). I also speak English at C1 level (116/120 score in the TOEFL iBT test), Spanish at B2 level and French at B1+ level.

Experience Abroad

From September to December 2023, I spent a semester abroad at University College London (UCL) in the UK. I took four modules with a total of 30LP, which I transferred to the free elective area of my geography degree. My stay abroad was funded by the Erasmus program. During my semester abroad, I acted as an ambassador for the University of Bonn.

In August 2022, I took part in a three-week scientific excursion to Kyrgyzstan with a local group. During this excursion, I was able to get to know the local nature, culture, politics and the way of life authentically in order to gain intercultural experience.

Awards

In March 2022, I was accepted as a scholarship holder of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation for outstanding achievements and extracurricular commitment. I hold this scholarship to this day. I am also involved in school lectures as an ambassador for the Foundation.

In November 2022, I received the GeoIN MINT Award 2022 from the German Umbrella Association for Geoinformation for the “GeoMINT@school” initiative, which I co-founded and which promotes better teaching of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and remote sensing in schools. The prize is endowed with 750€.

Personal Details

I have been playing the clarinet since 2009 and have been able to gain stage experience through this hobby in numerous musical performances. In 2015, 2017 and 2020 I took part in the music competition “Jugend musiziert” both as a soloist and in a clarinet quartet and have won several prizes at regional, state and national level.

I taught myself how to code websites using HTML, CSS and a little PHP and publish weekly blog articles on my own website.

I also self-educate myself in my free time with online courses on platforms such as Google Skillshop or LinkedIn Learning.

Since May 2023, I am a member of the umbrella organization of German geography students, GeoDACH.

Without these people, I would not be where I am today.
